==Check out my blog (infinitelygalactic.blogspot.com) or follow me on twitter (@ingalactic)== A review of the Fedora 16 based, KDE desktop of Kororaa Linux 16. Overall it’s a much more user-friendly and polished version of Fedora with a great selection of out-of-the-box software and codecs, and strives to make installing everyday necessities (eg. Skype, nVidia drivers, AMD drivers, flash) a breeze. Links: Juk: Lightweight Qt Music Player www.omgubuntu.co.uk How to record screencasts: infinitelygalactic.blogspot.com
@InfinitelyGalactic if you want gnome 3 and ubuntu based theres not a whole lot of distros that fall in that category
@DARTHZANRUIT try opensuse
great review
Does this guy smoke crack or what? I hate when people talk fast.
@InfinitelyGalactic yeah a lot of things are becoming mobile looking. xfce would be mine if you wanna know
@InfinitelyGalactic Thanks for the info. ^_~
@Ograws At this stage…(grimaces…opens one eye) Ubuntu’s Unity(!) Shock, horror. It’s just simple, it works, and once you get used to it (which I have) it’s very efficient. That doesn’t mean it’s everyone’s cup of tea, it just works better for my brain than Gnome shell or KDE.
@Laoch111 Usually it will automatically install drivers or it will ask you if you want to install the drivers automatically by selecting ‘Additional Drivers’ in the menu. Not sure about ‘Kickoff’ as I usually use Lancelot Menu on KDE distro’s.
And the system tray icons can only be white, unless you change the icon theme.
Hope that helped. Good luck!
@DARTHZANRUIT No Kororaa is an .rpm distro like Fedora, but if you wanted an Ubuntu based Gnome 3 distro you could check out either Luninux OS, or Gubuntu. Hope that helps…
I configure and compile kernels for debian based systems. Does Kororaa support .deb packaging? If not do you know a good Gnome 3 system that supports them? I tried Linux Mint 12, but it does not support my needs. :3
Thanks and great videos and Happy Holidays!
Does this Distro have video+wireless drivers working out of the box?
The odd things I’ve noticed about the kickoff menu is that if lets say you type in (without the quotes) “fir” – it wont necessarily find Firefox or Firewall etc. until you type in the full name or at least most of the name. Also not everything seems to show up on the kickoff menu search.
Is it possible to have colorful system tray icons like in LinuxMint-9-KDE?
KDE is looking sweet. I dislike most of the widgets though and the kickoff menu.
What is your favorite desktop environment?
again, an awesome and extremely informative review. i almost want to use kde after listening to you. thanks.
Wow. That distro has clearly taken out those pain-in-the-neck aspects of fedora and, in some ways, it looks easier than ubuntu. Thanks for bringing all those details to our attention. I’ll still probably put ubuntu12.4lts on my linux tower but I’m seriously considering kororaa for my notebook (because its single core athlon neo mv-40 1.6ghz 64bit with 2gig ram and ATI radeon x1250 graphics). If the kororaa distro runs well on it as dual boot to win7, I may have to say goodbye to win7 altogether.
I am currently using Linux Mint 12 and happen to be having issues with AMD drivers. It’s a very nice and polished OS but I feel I would like to change. This looks decent and might even take AMD drivers so it looks like it might be worth a shot installing it.
Would you recommend this over Linux Mint 12?
@InfinitelyGalactic Do you use Unity or Gnome3?
Cool Review - Thanks.
I’m currently running LMDE on 4 pcs, but this looks really, really, REALLY nice… It’s very compulsive, although I absolutely loathe Fedora… Amazing what people can do with Linux, even with crappy distros like Fedora. Simply amazing.
nice review!
@InfinitelyGalactic so am I, looking for an alternative though……..
@crowmand Ubuntu 11.10 at this stage anyway….
you probably get this a lot, sorry, but what is your main operating system? great videos btw!
i would like your opinion on macbuntu …its ubuntu but macifide
